When did the January transfer window open?

Clubs were officially able to do business again on Saturday 1 January. This includes all permanent and loan transfers between both domestic and international teams.

Players can also be recalled from existing loans, depending on the terms of the deal, and retained in the squad or complete another temporary or permanent transfer.

When does the transfer window close?

The month-long window of trading ends on Monday 31 January, with the deadline set for 11pm in England and midnight in Scotland.

The deadline for Women’s Super League clubs was Friday 28 January.

What about the rest of Europe?

Most of the other major leagues in England have a deadline on Monday 31 January, with Spain and France matching the Premier League’s 11pm cut-off. German clubs have until 5pm and in Italy it is 7pm.

Some other European windows are open for longer, including Austria (7 February), Croatia (15 February), Czech Republic (22 February), Portugal (2 February), Russia (22 February) and Turkey (8 February).

What happens after that deadline?

If a transfer is agreed between two clubs late in the day, the Premier League grant some additional time for the relevant documentation to be completed and submitted.

A deal sheet can be sent to the authorities to indicate that a transfer agreement has been reached, after which the clubs are handed an additional two hours to complete the remaining paperwork.

When do Premier League clubs have to submit updated squad lists?

Early February, once the winter window has closed. Premier League clubs will once again have to register 25 over-21 first team players, of whom a minimum of eight should be homegrown.

Those in European competition will also have to resubmit squad lists before the knockout rounds begin later in February, so there is the opportunity to add new signings or returning players to the roster.

What business have Chelsea already done?

It has been a quiet window at Stamford Bridge so far. Academy graduates Lewis Baker and Tariq Uwakwe have completed permanent transfers to Stoke City and Crewe Alexandra respectively, while Jamie Cumming and Juan Castillo have changed loan clubs.

Chelsea Women completed the signing of Alsu Abdullina from Lokomotiv Moscow just before Christmas, while Carly Telford ended her long association with the club with a move to San Diego Wave.
