With Trevoh Chalobah making a very early breakthrough in our 3-1 victory at Norwich on Thursday, we take a look at how it ranks on the list of Chelsea’s fastest goals so far in this campaign.
Eight of our goals this season have come in the first 10 minutes with the following five clocking in with the quickest times.
7:02 – Mason Mount v Norwich City
Mason Mount certainly enjoys playing against Norwich with his strike at Carrow Road this week making it six goals in his last four games against the Canaries. His haul includes a brilliant hat-trick in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge in October when he opened the floodgates in our 7-0 victory with a well-executed low drive from outside the box after the seven-minute mark.
5:08 – Timo Werner v Chesterfield
Chelsea effectively killed off Chesterfield’s hopes of springing a major upset in the FA Cup third round in January by putting four goals past the National League side in the first 39 minutes in a 5-1 victory. Timo Werner’s opener after just five minutes owed much to the industry of Mateo Kovacic who received the ball from Lewis Hall in his own half and went on a 40-yard run before laying it off for Hakim Ziyech who saw his effort parried by the goalkeeper to the German who slotted home easily.
4:18 – Kai Havertz v Tottenham Hotspur
Kai Havertz’s header against Lille in the Champions League finished just outside the top five as it arrived 14 seconds later than Mount’s strike against Norwich. However, he does have our third-quickest goal after firing us ahead in the first leg of our Carabao Cup semi-final against Spurs. After Marcos Alonso had intercepted a loose pass in the Tottenham half, the Spaniard played a neat through ball for Havertz to fire us into an early lead in a 2-0 victory over our London rivals.
2:31 – Trevoh Chalobah v Norwich City
Trevoh Chalobah is no stranger to scoring early goals after breaking the deadlock in our Premier League win over Southampton at Stamford Bridge earlier this season. The young centre-back bettered that though in our win at Carrow Road this week after rising at the near post to head in Mount’s corner after just 151 seconds.
1:22 – Timo Werner v Zenit Saint Petersburg
Werner capped a fast start for the Blues in our Champions League match at Zenit Saint Petersburg in December with our opening goal after only 93 seconds. Saul was denied by the Zenit goalkeeper just 49 seconds after the opening whistle but from the resulting corner, Ross Barkley swung the ball over for an unmarked Werner to tap in the first of his two goals in a 3-3 draw.
