Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta are both fit and available to face Lille, while late calls will be made on Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The Spanish pair were both on the bench against Newcastle on Sunday, watching on from the sidelines as a late Kai Havertz strike ensured a big three points in the Premier League, while the absent duo of James and Hudson-Odoi are both closing in on a return to action.
Now the focus turn to Europe and the Blues will head to northern France later today [Tuesday] ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League round of 16 second leg against the Ligue 1 side, with Chelsea heading into the tie with a 2-0 aggregate lead from the first leg.
Tuchel conducted his customary pre-match media duties and revealed that our Spanish are fit to feature and that he hopes to have James and Hudson-Odoi involved in our final training session before departing.
‘Marcos is ready to start and Azpi is also ready to start,’ Tuchel explained when addressing the media at Cobham.
‘With Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi, we will try to have them join in training later but this will be a very tight race.
‘As you know they were not involved [on Sunday] and we will take the decision on those two after training, it will be a very late call. First we need to weigh up the risk.
‘Let’s see after training if it is worth the risk or whether it is even possible first, as it will be a very, very tight race for them.’
