The Blues will play Real Madrid for a place in this season’s Champions League semi-finals following the draw which took place at UEFA headquarters on Friday morning.
Should we get past Real Madrid, we will meet either Manchester City or Atletico Madrid in the semi-final. The first leg would be away from home, with the return game at Stamford Bridge the following week. Our one previous meeting with Real in this competition was in last season’s semi-final when the away leg took place at their training ground. This new tie will take Chelsea to the Bernabeu for the first time. Last year, Christian Pulisic scored in a 1-1 draw in Madrid, with Timo Werner and Mason Mount on target in a 2-0 second-leg win at home.
In 1998 we defeated the side from the Spanish capital to win the UEFA Super Cup, and our first European trophy, the Cup Winners' Cup, came in 1971 when we won a replayed final in Greece against Real Madrid. The full quarter-final draw is:Chelsea vs Real MadridManchester City vs Atletico MadridVillarreal vs Bayern MunichBenfica vs Liverpool
