Our development squad are back in action tonight as they take on Manchester United tonight at Old Trafford with kick-off scheduled for 7PM.
Andy Myers and his men will be looking for another positive result this week amid relegation concerns.
Last time out
In our last game we drew 2-2 against Liverpool as Jude Soonsup-Bell scored a late equaliser to ensure we secured a point in that one.
The result means we are unbeaten in our last three games but with five games to go in the PL2 season, Myers’ boys will be looking for some more wins.
Our opponents
The Red Devils currently sit in fourth place and have been one of the better performers in the PL2 this season, however they did lose 3-2 in their most recent outing, against Leicester away from home.
Their last home game though saw them convincingly beat Everton 3-0, so they are a team who will threaten. In addition to this, they have only lost two games at home all season, against Manchester City and Crystal Palace, so we can expect a tough game.
Manchester United’s last five results:
Leicester City (a) – lost 3-2Everton (h) – won 3-0Leeds United (a) – lost 3-0Derby County (h) – won 5-2Crystal Palace (a) – drew 2-2
Team news
Harvey Vale will be pushing for a start today, having only played 45 minutes against Liverpool last week and not being fit enough for the squad which played Nottingham Forest in the Youth Cup on Monday.
Besides that, Myers should have a large squad to select from, which will only increase his chances of securing a good result.
In other new squad related news, we want to congratulate Dion Rankine for being named on the shortlist to win the PL2 Player of the Month for March.
He was a key figure in the game against West Ham early in the month of March as he helped the team secure a late equaliser. He also assisted Thierno Ballo’s goal against Leeds at Stamford Bridge, bursting down the right and supplying the perfect pass into the box.
Permutations
We currently sit in the relegation zone, second from bottom. Two teams get relegated from the PL2.
Myers and the squad will know that with the games in hand still left to play, there will be no cause for panic but winning as many games as possible will be of the utmost importance.
With five games left, there is still plenty of time for our young Blues to steer clear of the relegation zone.
