It was another busy few days of action for our international contingent with several Chelsea FC Women players competing in FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers, Concacaf Championship qualifiers and friendlies.

Games continued on the international stage, with our Blues players taking part in action across the globe. Here’s how they got on in the second round of fixtures…

TuesdayWorld Cup qualifiers

Norway then doubled their lead through Graham Hansen. It was goals-galore in the first half and Poland netted a consolation goal moments later, however Norway comfortably saw the game out.

It was a welcomed return for Maren Mjelde to the international stage, the Blues’ No.18 came on for the final 20 minutes as Norway sit top of Group F.

First versus second faced each other in Group B as Erin Cuthbert’s Scotland hosted Spain at Hampden Park. Cuthbert started the game as Scotland fell to a 0-2 defeat at the hands of the Spaniards.

Jennifer Hermoso scored a brace as Spain remained top of the group.

The Lionesses took on Northern Ireland in Group D. Defensive duo Millie Bright and Jess Carter started the game, while Bethany England and Niamh Charles started on the bench for Sarina Wiegman’s side, with England coming on in the second half.

Lauren Hemp opened the scoring in the first half and bagged her brace in the second, goals from Ella Toone and Georgia Stanway ensured the Lionesses cruised to victory in Belfast.

WednesdayConcacaf Women’s Championship

Drew Spence started on the bench as Jamaica secured their spot at the Concacaf Championships this summer, edging them one step closer to the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Jamaica put five past the Dominican Republic in a dominant win as they comfortably qualified for this summer’s championships.

TuesdayFriendly action

Jessie Fleming’s Canada kicked off the friendly action in the early hours of Tuesday as they took on Nigeria in Langford, Victoria.

The Blues’ No.17 played the full 90 minutes as Canada drew 2-2 on home soil. Nigeria’s Ifeoma Onumonu opened the scoring just five minutes in, they led until the 49th minute when Christine Sinclair levelled for Canada. The celebrations were short-lived as Nigeria re-gained their lead just four minutes later through Rasheedat Ajibade, but a late strike from Shelina Zadorsky ensured the game ended all square.

Sam Kerr’s Australia side were also in action on Tuesday morning, hosting New Zealand in Canberra. Our No.20 proudly captained the Matildas again as they ran out 3-1 winners against their fellow FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 hosts. Kerr bagged a brace for the Matildas, nodding home the opener 15 minutes into proceedings and getting her second just after the half-hour mark.

The Netherlands were also involved in international friendly action on Tuesday. Aniek Nouwen played the full 90 minutes as her side put five past South Africa in The Hague.

Four goals were scored in what was an entertaining first half. The hosts opened the scoring through Jackie Groenen’s strike from distance. Thembi Kgatlana equalised for South Africa not long after, however the Netherlands took the lead again through Lineth Beerensteyn. The Netherlands went on to score three further goals as they cruised to victory on home soil.

U19

Our young Blues also featured on the international stage on Tuesday. Charlotte Wardlaw captained the team as an Aggie Beever-Jones hat-trick meant the team qualified for the Women’s U19 Euros this summer.

Jorja Fox also featured as the team booked their place at the tournament.

The Blues’ international contingent will now return to Cobham as Emma Hayes side prepare to face Arsenal in the semi-final of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

The clash against Jonas Eidevall’s side kicks off at 12:30pm and will be broadcast live on BBC Two.
