Sam Kerr, Jess Carter and Guro Reiten have all been nominated for the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Player of the Season with Emma Hayes a contender for best manager, while Kerr and Pernille Harder are in the running for Goal of the Season.
It is a record-breaking year for Chelsea FC Women who became the first team in the WSL era to claim a third consecutive league title after defeating Manchester United 4-2 on the final day of the season.
Guiding the team to a third successive title and sixth overall, Hayes’ side won 18 of the 22 league games this year, losing just twice all season.
Hayes was in the running for Manager of the Month five times this season, scooping the award in March after a formidable month which saw the Blues go top of the table, and we were to remain there for the rest of the season.
Sam Kerr is one of three Blues in the running for Player of the Season after another incredible year. The Matildas striker has received a number of prestigious accolades this year, being named WSL Player of the Year at the London Football Awards and receiving the sought-after Football Writers’ Association Women’s Player of the Year award.
Kerr was the league’s top goal scorer this season and received back-to-back Golden Boot awards, netting 20 times in 20 appearances.
Guro Reiten is also in the mix for Player of the Season after a brilliant year with the Blues. The versatile midfielder has played a key part in Hayes’ team this year and the Norwegian’s contributions in front of goal have proved vital. Our No.11 netted seven times and set up five goals this year, one of the top goal contributors in the league.
Jess Carter has also been nominated for Player of the Season after becoming a reliable element of Hayes’ defensive unit this year. Chelsea have only conceded nine goals all season and with Carter in the side the Blues kept 13 clean sheets, earning her a well-deserved international call up with the Lionesses
The nominations keep coming for the Blues and Pernille Harder’s brilliant solo effort goal in our 6-1 away win over Manchester United has been nominated for Goal of the Season, while Kerr’s incredible volley against the Red Devils on the final day is also up for nomination.
The Blues are back in action for the final time this season on Sunday as Hayes’ side eye up a second bit of silverware in seven days, when the Blues take on Manchester City in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup final.
