The 28-year-old striker enjoyed a fine season for Chelsea Women, as we sealed a domestic Double with the Women’s Super League title and Women’s FA Cup in the 2021/22 campaign, and her fellow professionals have now chosen her as the top female footballer in the country.

It is the second year running the winner of the footballers’ own award has gone to a Chelsea Women player, following Fran Kirby’s success in 2020/21, while Ji So-Yun and Bethany England have also received the honour as a Blues player.

Kerr netted 32 times in all competitions last season, earning the second of back-to-back Golden Boot awards, with her 20 goals in 20 league games the most in the WSL. That included setting a new club record by scoring in seven consecutive matches, in addition to netting a crucial brace in the last-day win over Manchester United which sealed the WSL title and another in the FA Cup final victory against Manchester City.

The PFA Women’s Players’ Player of the Year is the latest in a string of individual accolades Kerr has received at the end of a brilliant season, having already been named Chelsea Women’s Player of the Year, Football Writers’ Association Women’s Player of the Year, WSL Player of the Year, PFA Fans’ Women’s Player of the Year and London Football Awards Women’s Player of the Year.

‘It’s a massive honour. Whenever you are voted by your peers, I think that’s the highest honour as a player, so it’s an amazing feeling,’ said Kerr, who also explained why the silverware claimed by the team this season felt extra special.

‘This season has definitely been up there with one of the best because of the hardships we’ve been through that kind of make it a little bit better. After chasing all season, to end up on top, the difficult times make it all that sweeter.’

The Australian was also included in the PFA WSL Team of the Year, being one of four Chelsea Women players in the XI following our double trophy success in 2022, alongside team-mates Ann-Katrin Berger, Millie Bright and Guro Reiten.

There was Blues representation from our men’s squad in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year too, with defender Antonio Rudiger being one of only two players selected from outside of Liverpool or Manchester City. Rudiger moved to Real Madrid earlier this month.
