After Portuguese forward Joao Felix returned for a second spell with Chelsea, this time in a permanent switch, we highlight 10 impressive pieces of trivia on our newest Blue…

- Joao Felix’s professional debut came for Benfica B in the Portuguese second division. Aged 16, it made him the youngest player to represent the team at the time.

- His first goal for Benfica’s senior team came on a memorable occasion, coming off the bench to find the net in a 1-1 with Sporting in the Lisbon derby. He became the youngest player to score in that fixture, on just his second appearance for the senior side.

- He also scored his first goal in his second appearance during his Chelsea loan, opening the scoring in a 1-1 draw away at West Ham United, and again last season when he netted in Barcelona’s first in a 5-0 thrashing of Real Betis. That means his goal on his third appearance for Atletico Madrid is the longest he’s ever had to wait to open his account for a club.

- His debut season with the senior Benfica side ended with him named in the 2018/19 Europa League Squad of the Season, where he had eight members of that term’s victorious Chelsea side for company.

- Earlier in the same European campaign, Joao Felix produced a stunning performance for Benfica against Eintracht Frankfurt. He became the youngest player ever to score a hat-trick in the competition (19 years, 52 days), in a 4-2 win over the Germans.

- The forward’s first Champions League goal arrived in a 2-0 away win for Atletico Madrid at Lokomotiv Moscow. It made him the club’s youngest scorer in the competition, at 19 years of age, and he also set up their other goal in the Russian capital.

- The Premier League remains the only league he has played in but not won, having lifted the Primeira Liga title with Benfica in 2018/19 (his first season with the senior team) and become a Spanish champion at Atletico Madrid two years later. He also has international honours, having made his Portugal debut in the semi-finals of their victory in the inaugural UEFA Nations League on home soil in 2019.

- In Atletico’s opening league fixture of 2022/23, Joao Felix set up all three goals in a 3-0 away win over Getafe. It made him only the second Portuguese player to achieve the rare feat of a hat-trick of La Liga assists.

- Last season, on loan at Barcelona, he scored against his parent club Atletico home and away in La Liga – winning both games – becoming the first person to do so for Barca since Lionel Messi.

- Joao Felix netted the goal which secured the biggest win in the history of the Portuguese national team, completing the scoring in a 9-0 win over Luxembourg during qualifying for Euro 2024.
