The next instalment of our look at Chelsea's 120-year history in pictures focuses on our return to the top flight and the end of an era in the decade from 1925.
Chelsea’s third decade coincided with the introduction of the new offside rule to English football in 1925, but we wouldn’t get to experience it in the setting we deserved for some time.
Having been relegated to the Second Division, we were regularly in the promotion fight, but with only two teams going up in those days, it wouldn’t be until 1930 that our longest spell outside of the top flight finally came to an end and we returned to Division One.
We quickly established ourselves in mid-table on our return, and even reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the fourth time in our history a year later, although just like the first 20 years later, it ended in defeat to Newcastle United.
The Pensioners were approaching a period of rebuilding though, with David Calderhead – who remains the club’s longest-serving manager of all-time – retired to bring his 26-year association with Chelsea to and end, handing the reigns to his successor Leslie Knighton.
Here are some of our favourites images from Chelsea's third decade...
