Two great west London institutions will come together to celebrate our 120th anniversary when the Saatchi Gallery hosts a very special Chelsea exhibition.
This month marks 120 years since Chelsea FC was founded in 1905, and our unique heritage will be on display just down the King’s Road at the world-renowned Saatchi Gallery.
Throughout our 120 years, the history of the Blues has been intertwined with the capital’s culture, and that impact will now be celebrated at one of our city’s most prestigious art galleries.
Titled ‘This Game Is What We Make It’, the exhibition will be open to the public for three days from Saturday 22 March until Monday 24 March. It features two galleries demonstrating the way Chelsea and London culture have shaped each other.
The first of those tells the story of the Blues through a display of 10 of our most iconic kits, highlighting the shirts worn for the moments which shaped our club in some of our defining moments. They include those worn by the likes of John Terry, Didier Drogba and Peter Osgood for some of the biggest landmarks in Chelsea history.
There is also a gallery dedicated to our impact off the pitch, looking at how we have inspired London and the world through fashion, music and celebrity culture.
Mods, casuals, punks, ravers, ska, reggae and Brit pop have all played their part in the cosmopolitan story of Chelsea – and vice versa – with those relationships celebrated by a collection of stunning photography.
That is in addition to a further two galleries showcasing the work of this year’s five Blue Creator Fund grant recipients, who have each been awarded £20,000 by the Chelsea Foundation – in partnership with VERSUS – to spotlight the diverse experiences and backgrounds which comprise our fanbase at home and abroad.
Following a private opening event for contributors tomorrow, the ‘This Game Is What We Make It’ exhibition will be open to the public and celebrating the history of Chelsea and our role in London’s culture until Monday.
Visitors on Saturday afternoon will get a special treat, with Blues supporters and DJs Sana, Kenny Allstar, Jordan Vickors and Terry Farley providing the soundtrack with live performances.
