It's been a memorable week for Aggie Beever-Jones. On Tuesday evening, the Chelsea Academy graduate netted her first England goal. Four days later, she struck a stoppage-time winner against Liverpool to send the Blues to the FA Cup final.

The 21-year-old worked tirelessly throughout yesterday's semi-final clash at Kingsmeadow and came close on several occasions to finding the net.

It wasn't until four minutes into stoppage time that Beever-Jones' moment arrived. Sandy Baltimore's cross found the striker in space, and she planted a header beyond Liverpool goalkeeper Rachael Laws to secure Chelsea's place at Wembley.

'Crazy, I don't think it's hit me yet,' Beever Jones said after the game. 'Obviously, being Chelsea, we want to be in the finals. Helping us do that, I'm delighted, but I think it was such a great team performance. So, credit to every single person on the pitch who gave their all.

'We trusted the game plan and, to be honest, we could have probably put the game to bed a little bit earlier, but that's the Chelsea way – we never give up until final whistle.'

Beever-Jones has heard a different voice in training this season following the arrival of Sonia Bompastor, and the England international highlighted the impact our head coach has made on her and the rest of the squad.

'I think she's a very calm person,' she explained. 'When we come in at half time, she may say a few more things which are less calm, but it's well received. I think she's very good at it.

'She's such an experienced coach and a player. I think she's been in this position before, and I think she told us some truths that we need to work on, that we needed to identify.

'I think you saw that in the second half, we needed to prepare for the first and the second half like they were two separate games.

'But I think Sonia has a very good aura about her, and she keeps the team calm. We know the calibre of players we have. We have world-class players on the pitch, and world-class players ready to come on to make an impact.'

The feeling is very much mutual.

In her post-match press conference, Bompastor heaped praise on Beever-Jones after she had scored the crucial goal that sealed the win against Liverpool.

'I think Aggie has the right mentality,' said the boss. 'She has the right mindset. We had some conversations through the season, as sometimes she was a bit frustrated because she was not starting some games. But I think that's the right mindset.

'As a player, you need to compete to start every game, and sometimes you need to understand that being at Chelsea with a big squad means you need to be a little bit patient.

'She is always working, from the beginning of the season until now, hard on the pitch with the right mentality. She is always asking for extra work, always asking how she can improve in her game depending on what position she's playing on the pitch. She had some moments where she was doubting a little bit, but not for that long.'

Beever-Jones is Chelsea's top scorer in the Women's Super League this season, with nine goals netted. Many of those have been struck when deployed as a centre forward, but Bompastor believes the Academy graduate may be best suited to a No.10 role.

Our head coach said: 'I think for her, the best position she can play is No.10, but I still think she has a lot of strengths, quality to play in different positions up front, but I really see her as a No.10.

'We didn't have a lot of opportunity to do that this season, but I think she could be a really good in that role.'
