Chelsea return to Barclays Women’s Super League action with a blockbuster top-of-the-table clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday lunchtime.

Prior to the international break, we maintained our unbeaten start to our WSL title defence. Four consecutive league victories were recorded in November, with 19 goals scored and only three conceded.

We have four matches to contest before the winter break and begin the run-in to Christmas with a short journey to north London for a meeting with Arsenal. The Gunners occupy second place in the table, just three points behind the Blues, who lead the way ahead of kick-off.

When and where?

We travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal in the WSL this Sunday 10 December, with kick-off scheduled for 12.30pm (UK time).

How to follow

You can follow the game through the match centre on the Official Chelsea App and website, or via Chelsea Women’s social media channels.

For supporters who cannot attend the match on Sunday, this has been selected for live television broadcast on BBC Two.

The form

After eight league matches, we have taken 22 points from 24 available, with seven wins and one draw.

We have struck 28 goals in the WSL, which is eight more than any other side. Only in the 2017 Spring Series (32) have we scored more at this stage of a season in the competition.

As for Arsenal, they come into the fixture sitting second in the league table with 19 points. They have claimed six victories and earned one draw alongside a single defeat.

The Gunners went into the international break off the back of a 3-0 home win over West Ham United at Meadow Park.

Arsenal vs Chelsea recent head-to-head record

Our previous league outing at the Emirates was our first fixture of 2023 – and it ended in a 1-1 draw. Sam Kerr headed a dramatic late equaliser to salvage a point for the Blues and cancel out Kim Little’s earlier spot-kick.

In the reverse league fixture at Kingsmeadow in May, we recorded a 2-0 victory which sent us on our way to a fourth consecutive league title. First-half goals from Guro Reiten and former skipper Magdalena Eriksson were the difference.

We faced the Gunners in both domestic cup competitions last season, with one win apiece. We came out on top with a 2-0 victory in the fifth round of the FA Cup in February, before succumbing to defeat in the League Cup final at Selhurst Park in March.

Next up for the Blues

A return to UEFA Women’s Champions League action is on the horizon for the Blues when we welcome Swedish side BK Hacken to Stamford Bridge on matchday three on Thursday 14 December, with kick-off scheduled for 8.00pm (UK time).

Our opponents have taken maximum points from their opening two matches of the group stage and lead the way in Group D.

The Blues are hot on their heels and just two points behind in second place ahead of consecutive games against the Swedes before the winter break.
