Kai Havertz was among the group of Chelsea players who trained at Cobham this morning as preparations for our Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid continued.
The German missed the weekend defeat to Brighton with what Frank Lampard said was a minor knee problem sustained in the Bernabeu a few days prior.
However, he was involved today on a glorious morning in Surrey, with the first part of the final session before Real’s visit streamed live on chelseafc.com and the 5th Stand app.
Carney Chukwuemeka, who has missed our past four matches after picking up a knock in training, was also out on the grass, as was N’Golo Kante, rested at the weekend.
Kalidou Koulibaly, who went off injured in Spain with a hamstring injury, was not involved as expected. Frank Lampard said he will return in weeks, not days. Armando Broja is the only long-term absentee.
Before training began, Lampard addressed the whole group, and then the players got to work in the sunshine, knowing they will have to be at their best to overturn the two-goal advantage the reigning European champions will bring to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening.
Before then, Lampard and one of his players will be speaking to the media at Stamford Bridge from 3pm today. You can watch that media conference live on the Chelsea website and the 5th Stand.
