Levi Colwill had a big hand in Brighton qualifying for European competition for the first time in their history, as he turned provider by setting up two goals in the space of four days.
The young centre-back has played an increasingly large role in Brighton & Hove Albion’s impressive season, as the Seagulls have become the Premier League’s surprise package in 2022/23.
Levi Colwill’s 22nd appearance of the campaign came from the start when they hosted fellow South Coast side Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday and he helped his team dominate throughout.
He even got upfield to help out the attack by producing an assist at a corner, winning the header before the ball fell to Pascal Gross to finish low and complete the scoring in a 3-1 victory, which guaranteed Brighton would be competing in one of the European competitions next season, a feat the club has never achieved before.
Colwill, who was this week named in the squad for an England Under-21s training camp ahead of their European Championship campaign this summer, was in the Brighton line-up again on Wednesday evening as they took on the daunting task of facing newly crowned Premier League champions Manchester City at the Amex Stadium.
The 20-year-old was part of a defence which managed to keep top scorer Erling Haaland off the score sheet, although Brighton still went behind. Colwill helped them come back to secure an impressive 1-1 draw, though, showing good composure to carry the ball out of defence in the opposition half before handing over to Julio Enciso, who hammered a stunning strike into the top corner.
That ended Man City’s 12-match winning run and guaranteed a top-six finish for Brighton in the table, meaning their first-ever European campaign will be in the Europa League.
Well done Levi, keep it up!
