Aggie Beever-Jones’ rich vein of form shows no sign of letting up. The young striker scored for the fifth consecutive WSL game in Chelsea's 5-2 win over Leicester City on Sunday – and afterward spoke of her determination to stay grounded despite her rapid ascent to the limelight.
Beever-Jones is a product of our Academy and spent the past two seasons out on loan continuing her development.
The 20-year-old returned to Cobham this summer and has been handed her chance to impress by Emma Hayes. She has seized it with both hands, netting in each of our past five WSL games whether starting or coming off the bench.
‘I’m delighted, and it makes me feel a bit speechless if I’m honest,’ Beever-Jones said after her latest goal, a perfectly placed header against the Foxes at Kingsmeadow.
‘I don’t think I’d have ever thought when I was a young kid that, after being out on loan, I’d come back and score five in five. But I’m just taking it in my stride.
‘The main thing for me is having good performances; scoring is the bonus. There is a lot I need to work on and this environment is the best environment to do it.
‘The last thing I want to do is to get too caught up on it [the scoring run],’ Aggie added.
‘I want to keep my feet on the ground because I’m only 20 years old, there is a long way to go in my career. I’m taking each match as it comes and want to add different elements to my game, whether that is assisting, or learning a different role. I’m really enjoying it and the main thing is staying humble.’
Beever-Jones’ header against Leicester crowned another rampant Chelsea performance. Hayes's side has scored 23 goals in the past five league encounters.
It is also now three Kingsmeadow wins on the spin, which has been backed up by our successful outings at Stamford Bridge this season.
Beever-Jones had words of praise for our home support in Kingston, and also gave her thoughts on our strong start to 2023/24.
‘We have made Kingsmeadow our fortress. The fans are brilliant, they help us so much, we can hear them through the whole game. We want teams to come here and know it’s going to be a tough game. We've been able to do that.
‘We want to win every game and the trust we have in the coaching staff, the trust we have in the game plans, and how we want to play, is massive.
‘We are confident but we’re not over-confident. Now it is the international break, but we’ll come back from that and hit the ground running, ready to win more games.’
