Nathalie Bjorn felt some honest words at half-time led to Chelsea Women’s impressive second-half display against Brighton, as goals after the break ensured a big away win in the WSL.

The Blues went it goalless at the interval at Broadfield Stadium before a quickfire double from Lauren James and Fran Kirby put Emma Hayes’s side in the driving seat.

Just before the hour-mark, James grabbed her second and the team’s third to wrap up the points and Bjorn revealed how the players felt they needed to ‘up the levels’ in the second half to put Brighton to the sword.

‘It was tough and I don’t think we played our best in the first half but we stuck together as a team, kept a clean sheet and scored three goals so overall we’re really happy!

‘We spoke at half-time about how we needed to up our levels, because we just felt in the first half we weren’t quite at our usual standards. Sometimes you have games like that and you just have to work even harder.

‘I thought we did that in the second half and the two goals in quick succession showed that and in the end, we were well deserving of the win.’

The defender was handed another start at the heart of our backline and the winter addition from Everton has explained how she’s settled into Chelsea life seamlessly thanks to her team-mates.

‘I’ve settled in really well and it’s a lot of fun to play here,’ added the Swedish international.

‘The girls have helped me settle in well, I just love playing football and I’m really happy and grateful for every minute I get on the pitch.

‘We can take heart from this victory and take it into the next game against Paris. Obviously, we know we are already through but it’s a Champions League game and we will want to put on our best performance to try and get the win.’
