The Ballon d’Or is viewed as one of the most prestigious individual awards in football and is voted on by an international panel of journalists.

At the prestigious award ceremony at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris this evening, the results were revealed and it was World Cup winner Bonmati who scooped the women’s prize ahead of Kerr.

Bright's excellent performances for Chelsea and England were recognised with an eleventh-place finish while Reiten was nineteenth in the voting after her impressive campaign.

Each of the trio played key roles in an incredible 2022/23 season for the Blues. We were crowned Women’s Super League champions for an unprecedented fourth successive year and made it a Double with a third successive FA Cup triumph.

Bright was a rock at the heart of our defence throughout that campaign and underlined her status as one of the world's best centre-backs by captaining England to the final of this summer’s Women’s World Cup.

At the other end of the pitch, Kerr enjoyed another brilliant campaign. She netted 29 goals for Chelsea in all competitions and surpassed 100 games for the club.

Her achievements have already been recognised with a place in the PFA WSL Team of the Year for the third time.

Kerr has been among the Ballon d'Or nominees each year since the inception of the award in 2018, finishing third the last two years. She has also been nominated for this year's FIFA Puskas Award and the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year prize.

The Australian was joined in the PFA WSL Team of the Year by Reiten, who was the third and final Chelsea nominee for the Ballon d’Or.

It was the Norwegian’s second consecutive inclusion by the PFA at the end of a season in which she was Chelsea’s creative spark in the title triumph. She also struck 13 goals in 39 games.
