Sonia Bompastor has spoken of her excitement to lead Chelsea in the Women’s Champions League this term and has reflected on Friday’s draw.
The Blues have been paired in Group B with Real Madrid, FC Twente and Celtic with the latest European campaign scheduled to get started next month.
Our head coach has given us her immediate reflections on the pairings and highlighted how she will look to approach each fixture as we juggle both domestic and European schedules.
‘We’re really excited to get started in the Champions League,’ said our head coach.
‘I was watching the draw and finally it’s now set and we know who we will be facing. I’m happy with the draw, I think the nice thing is that we don’t have to travel too far. We have some fairly easy trips in terms of short travel distances and I think this is important.
‘The WSL is very competitive but the Champions League is even more competitive. We never take more than one game for granted and we will approach each fixture – both domestic and in Europe – with the same mentality.
‘It will be very difficult and we will need to use the squad as now we will start playing three games a week.
‘The schedule will become very busy but this is expected when you are competing across many competitions. We will take each game step by step and look forward to the challenges ahead.’
