Sonia Bompastor hailed her side's character after the Blues came from 1-0 down to defeat Everton 4-1 and secure a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Bompastor's side had to come from 1-0 down to secure a place in the next round, with Sara Holmgaard netting for the Toffees after 17 minutes directly from a corner. Yet, we responded as Catarina Macario equalised from the penalty spot before Mayra Ramirez, Maika Hamano and Sandy Baltimore made it 4-1.

And our head coach praised her side's mentality to come from a losing position and put in a dominant display at Kingsmeadow, as she said: 'It's a really good result and a good performance.

'We conceded the first goal which has not always happened to us, but we were able to show that even when we were losing 1-0, we were calm enough to believe that we have the strengths and the qualities to come back in the game. It shows our mental strength.

'It's never easy to play a team who play with a low block. They are sitting in the back just waiting for us to lose balls and counter-attack with their speed up front.

'We were confident in our qualities and talent to come back in the game. At half-time we were leading 2-1 and in the second half, we had a good performance as well.'

Bompastor continued: 'You can never choose the scenario of the game, but if you analyse the game, it was a really good one for us because we were 1-0 down and it's good sometimes to face that scenario and just to practice on that.

'I was really pleased with the reaction of the players. They stayed confident and they believed it was possible for us to come back. They were not rushing on the pitch and stuck to the game plan.'

Defender Ashley Lawrence marked her 50th Chelsea appearance in the win against Everton, with Bompastor speaking highly of the Canadian international's impact and recent displays in her three consecutive starts.

She said: 'I'm pleased for her. It's always good to make your 50th appearance.

'Sometimes it's not easy when a player doesn't start or play regularly, it is more difficult for them to perform but when you are able to play game after game it brings you confidence.

'Ashley had a really good performance today. She had an impact on the team and that is really good.'

The Blues had to see out the game with 10 players after Nathalie Bjorn left the pitch with an injury and Bompastor had already made each of her five substitutions.

Our head coach said: 'She felt a little bit in her hamstring by the end of the game, so I didn't want to take any risk even if we had to finish the game with 10 players. We'll assess her tomorrow and see how she feels.'
