Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor hailed her side's team spirit after the Blues beat Arsenal 1-0 to make it two wins from two in the USA.

Summer signing Sandy Baltimore netted the only goal in the 48th minute in Washington, DC to secure Chelsea a second win of our pre-season tour.

The win over our London rivals at Audi Field follows the victory over NJ/NY Gotham in New Jersey on Monday, and Bompastor was pleased with what she saw against the Gunners in the American capital.

'What I take from the game is that we worked really hard as a team and even if we had difficult moments we were able to manage them,' Bompastor said. This is a good team spirit and I like that.

'Of course, the result was good even if we know we still need to work. These have been two good games for us to build on and to progress.'

Bompastor's Blues will return to England with two wins under their belt and our head coach believes the foundations have been put in place Stateside to keep building on the style she is looking to implement.

'We are in the beginning,' the head coach added. 'It's not even been one month working with the team and it takes time to make sure all the girls understand our game model and the expectations I have of them on the field.

'I'm really happy. I think what we want to work on since the beginning has been about the team spirit and from the two games we've played you can see we are playing like a team together, even when we have hard moments in games.

'From these two games, we will be working, progressing and reinforcing the messages on the game model. I'm already happy with the girls, their performance and what they're achieving on the field.'

It took Baltimore less than three minutes to net her first Chelsea goal after coming on against Arsenal at half-time. A well-taken finish put the Blues ahead, and left Bompastor praising our French match-winner.

'I feel really happy for her,' Bompastor said. 'It is always something special to have the opportunity to score your first goal with your new team.

'It will give her some confidence and it is always good to be highlighted. I'm really happy for Sandy.'

Following the win over Arsenal, Bompastor provided an update on forward Lauren James who was missing from the matchday squad in DC.

'It was more managing her body,' Bompastor explained. 'She has an injury and was feeling some pain, so we took the right decision not to put her in this game, but she should be OK as soon as we are back to London.'
