Boyhood Blue Tyrique George was overjoyed to convert his first senior goal for Chelsea and set us on the way to a 3-0 win over Legia Warsaw in our Conference League quarter-final first leg.

After coming through our development centre programme and signing as an Under-8, Tyrique spent a decade working his way up the Academy ranks at Cobham to secure a place in the first team.

His debut came at the start of the season and, on his 18th appearance, the unforgettable moment of a maiden Blues goal arrived. The 19-year-old's delight was evident in his celebration, and when he faced the media after our victory in the Polish capital.

‘I’m really happy to score my first goal for my boyhood club,’ the Academy graduate said. I’ve played a few games now, but to score the first goal feels really good. It’s probably my best [night in a Chelsea shirt so far].

It was an impressive night on all accounts for George and Chelsea, with the scoring opened just after the interval by our Academy graduate before Noni Madueke struck a brace to give us a three-goal advantage heading into next week's second leg at Stamford Bridge.

‘It was a crazy atmosphere; they were singing for the entire 90 minutes,' reflected George. ' It was really tough, but it was also good. It was really good to get the 3-0 win and I’m really happy to have scored.’

George began the game wide on the left flank but moved into the No.9 role at half time after Madueke replaced Cole Palmer. It was another indication of the faith Enzo Maresca has in the young forward, who explained what the Blues head coach asked of him.

He continued: ‘It was to try to help us become more free-flowing through the middle and to try to get me some more touches on the ball.

‘The gaffer told me once I had moved into the nine to make sure I follow in any shots for rebounds. Obviously, it just fell to me and I tapped it in.’

Fellow goalscorer Madueke was proud of George’s efforts on the night and praised him for his work on and off the pitch.

The England international said: ‘To be fair, I told him he was going to score his first Chelsea goal today! Ty is a great young player, very talented, and a good boy as well. I’m pleased for him to score.’
