Millie Bright says the mentality instilled by Emma Hayes at Chelsea was crucial to the Blues ending a rollercoaster campaign with a fifth consecutive Women's Super League title.
Our skipper lifted yet another WSL trophy following our stunning 6-0 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford, which was a fitting end as we said goodbye to Hayes and fellow club legends Fran Kirby - who scored our final goal - and Maren Mjelde.
Bright has endured a difficult campaign herself, describing it as her toughest physically and mentally after a lengthy spell with injury. The playing squad has also had to deal with impending change with Hayes' departure and other key players being absent due to spells on the sidelines.
And our skipper believes the title win feels even better given the Blues have faced so many challenging moments this season.
'It is a rollercoaster way to win the league and everything we have had to overcome to win it,' said the defender. 'Everything we've had to overcome to win it - the team have been incredible.
'But I look at the other side and we're losing such good people who are part of our family. It has been a rollercoaster and I'm just so proud of everyone.'
After securing the title, Bright credited the influence of Hayes as she described what it took to get through those difficult times.
'I put it down to the culture that Emma has created,' added Bright. 'The mentality she has given us as players. There have been moments to celebrate and moments to learn from, we've had a lot of that this season.
'Each year the league has been harder to win. We've had to step up and the senior players have had to take some of the heat during the difficult times, but I'm just so proud of everyone.'
There was still a job to do going into the game at Old Trafford. We started the game top but were level on points with Manchester City. Importantly, we had a better goal difference and our squad was focused on the task at hand.
'It was just tunnel vision,' explained Bright. 'We just had our focus on what we were doing.
'We had to execute our game plan because we know we are good at scoring that amount of goals against top teams if we're on our A-game. Again, it's the mentality to push that extra mile. We were all about Chelsea today.'
Bright was one of the first people Hayes embraced as she made her way onto the pitch to celebrate her final win as Chelsea manager. Sixteen trophies and 12 years later, the centre-back paid tribute to a Blues legend.
'This is another milestone that we have reached and another example of what Emma Hayes represents,' signed off our captain.
