Millie Bright says the Blues are ready and raring to go ahead of facing Manchester City in the Continental Tyres League Cup final this evening.
Our No.4 spoke as Emma Hayes’ side gear up for a mouth-watering cup final clash against City, with Bright hoping our good recent defensive record against them continues.
‘We’re all in a good space,’ Bright said.
‘For us it’s business as normal, we’ve got a final and that’s our focus. Our aim every single game day is to give the fans an amazing performance and give them something to watch on the TV or present at the stadium, so for us nothing changes.
‘The plan week in week out is to perform at the highest level and ultimately win the cup and bring it back to Chelsea. Hopefully we can put on a good show for the fans.’
This evening’s clash at the Cherry Red Records Stadium will have a full crowd, something Bright and the rest of the team are relishing to play in front of.
‘Really happy that it’s a sell-out, we can’t wait to see both sets of fans there and creating a really good atmosphere, so it’s exciting and we’re just ready and raring to go now.
‘Lifting silverware is the ultimate goal and that’s something that we always aim to do at this club and representing Chelsea. It’s all about winning medals and showcasing on the highest of stages, so it is just like any other game, we want to win, we want to be the best and put on a show for the fans.’
Bright was asked how she and her team-mates are able to focus with recent events taking place off the pitch: ‘Obviously everyone’s aware of the situation, I don’t think it’s something that can go unseen. But, for us when we come into this Chelsea environment, we have to remain 100 per cent focused on the game and lifting that trophy and playing to our best levels.’
Chelsea Women have kept clean sheets in our last three outing against City, a statistic our Blues defender is pleased with and wants to extend today.
‘Every game has been tough, we’ve had different things thrown at us in every game against them. We know what they’re about, we know their strengths and for us keeping clean sheets is something we pride ourselves on so nothing changes there.
'City are in form, they’re a top team so every time we play them, we want to be ruthless in defence.
‘We value every trophy no matter if it’s FA Cup, Conti Cup, the league. We value the silverware as equal so for us preparation is the same, we train every day. It’s just about nailing our game plan and making sure we’re all switched on and ready, which we are, we’re in an excellent position and everyone’s prepared.
‘It’s going to be a tough game, it’s a big one but it’s one that we’re ready for and to win in front of a sell-out crowd would be incredible but we’ve got to do all the right things before to make sure we get to that point.’
This evening’s game kicks of at 5:15pm UK time and is being broadcast live on BBC Two and the FA Player. Fans can get all the behind-the-scenes action from our Instagram show live from the stadium in the lead up to kick-off.
