Defender Millie Bright says Chelsea FC Women have no time to dwell following Saturday’s Continental Tyres League Cup defeat to Manchester City.
The Blues fell to a 3-1 defeat against Gareth Taylor’s side at Plough Lane. We opened the scoring in the first half through Sam Kerr, however City were quick out of the blocks after the interval and scored three second-half goals to clinch the trophy.
Speaking after the game, Bright said: ‘I just think we lost our momentum in the second half, I don’t think we pressed as well as we did in the first half.
‘We just lacked that energy and we weren’t good enough in possession and when you’re playing against a tough team like this, you can’t keep turning the ball over, they were excellent in possession and punished us.’
The Blues have a packed fixture list this month, with a total of seven games to play in March and our No.4 believes the Blues can take positives from our first-half performance against City.
‘The games come thick and fast, so for us we have to go home, reflect on it, take the first half with us. We were brilliant in the first half, really dominant.
‘It’s a busy schedule, no time to dwell, we just have to move on. We’ve been in these situations before which aren’t always nice but we just have to get on with it.’
It was a sell-out crowd at Plough Lane on Saturday, setting a new Conti Cup final record of 8,004 in attendance. Bright was full of praise for the Blues fans who came to show their support.
‘The fans were excellent, we’re grateful for every single one of them for coming out and it shows the development of the game yet again, how many people want to come and watch us.
‘Obviously, we didn’t get the result for them so apologies for that but I think we’re moving in the right direction in the women’s game.’
The Blues are straight back in to Barclays FA Women’s Super League action this week as we travel to West Ham United on Thursday. Our midweek clash against the Irons kicks off at 7.45pm (UK time) and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
