Our Carabao Cup quarter-final victory over Newcastle United shows Chelsea are back on track and together as a team, according to Armando Broja.

Chelsea went behind in the first half at Stamford Bridge but held strong and kept believing, allowing us to triumph in a dramatic late turnaround. First Mykhailo Mudryk equalised in added time, before we then converted all four of our spot-kicks in the decisive penalty shoot-out to book our place in the semi-finals.

For Armando Broja, it is a clear sign of the determination players and staff have to improve the team’s fortunes in all competitions this season, as well as pushing for the chance of silverware and European qualification as we enter the last four of the Carabao Cup.

‘We have had a few unfortunate results but we are trying to turn it around, kickstart the season and push on forward,’ said Broja. ‘I feel we have been sticking together and digging in deep.

‘Obviously we want to keep pushing for the league, which is the most important thing. But this competition is a chance to win a trophy and we want to win a trophy. That is what Chelsea is all about. It is a good opportunity for us now that we are in the semi-finals.’

However, for all his optimism for the future, Broja feels it is important to remember that Mauricio Pochettino’s new-look Blues this season will continue to need time to develop and build a full understanding as a team, although matches and results like this one will play a big part in aiding that process.

‘We have said many times at the club, we are a new team, new staff and everyone is behind the manager. We are all trying to work together and gel together. It is not going to be easy straight away.

'We have got a whole bunch of new players and we have got to get that rhythm and get that bond together. It is not going to be easy and it is not going to happen overnight. People have to understand that.

‘Games like these show our spirit in the team and we stuck together and dug deep and got the result at the end of the game, which is the most important thing.

‘We have been playing some really good football. So hopefully we can keep going forward and this result will bring us more positive results.’
