There is plenty to play for in tonight’s Champions League encounter with Dinamo Zagreb despite the Blues having already secured top spot in the group, with Armando Broja keen for the players to show the right response after suffering our first defeat of the Graham Potter era.

Broja has featured in nine of the 10 matches played under the new head coach, albeit only one from the start away at Brentford last month. He made his Champions League debut in the Croatian capital on matchday one, a trip that ended with a 1-0 defeat.

Dinamo are still hopeful of finishing third and qualifying for the Europa League, for which they would need a win tonight at Stamford Bridge and hope AC Milan beat Red Bull Salzburg in the other Group E game, so Broja is aware they will be difficult opponents once again.

‘We know they’re a good club,’ he said. ‘We know they’ve got something to fight for because they’re trying to qualify for the Europa League so it’s going to be a tough game.

‘We just want to win the game for us and go into the knockout stages on a high point. We’ll see what they do but we’re ready for everything. If we play like we’ve been training the last two days then we’ll get the result.’

Brighton inflicted our fourth defeat of the campaign last time out and Potter could use this group stage finale to restore confidence among his players, although there will also be a temptation to rest players ahead of three big matches before the World Cup break.

Arsenal are the visitors to SW6 on Sunday lunchtime before we finish with trips to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup and Newcastle United in the Premier League. For Broja, the key is showing the right response tonight and restoring momentum ahead of the mid-season pause.

‘We know it was a bad defeat for us but we’re going to bounce back from it, dust ourselves off and go again,’ he continued.

‘We’re looking forward to the next four games we have before the World Cup to get as many points as we can, try to get through in the Carabao Cup.

‘These next matches are equally important for us to rack up as many points as we can.’
