Kadeisha Buchanan’s performances have been one of the highlights of Chelsea’s start to the season, and the defender has identified why she is feeling more comfortable than ever in herself and her game.

The 28-year-old is entering her third campaign as a Blue. She has begun it brightly. Having starred in the opening day win against Aston Villa, Buchanan returned to the side at the weekend to help keep Arsenal at bay as we secured a brilliant victory in north London.

On the eve of our European encounter away to Twente, Buchanan reflected on her beginning to life at Chelsea and outlined her desire to maintain this positive momentum.

‘It was quite a tough couple of seasons,’ acknowledged Buchanan.

‘Each season I am growing as a person and a player. It’s a good thing to see growth from me, and for that to continue throughout the season. Each season I’m growing. This could be the best so far, but I feel like in another season I will probably find a better version of me.

‘I feel I am in a good space right now and doing well, so I’m just focusing on continuing that.’

This summer, Buchanan was reunited with her former Lyon teammate Lucy Bronze. The pair lined up side by side in our defence at Arsenal on Saturday, and Buchanan expressed her delight at the reunion.

‘It’s nice to have Lucy back, and that partnership. We spent a few years together before. We have both changed as players since then, so to reunite has been a good partnership, and a good feeling.

‘Communication has been really great. We are helping each other with that, with a new coach, a new style of play; we are all communicating and trying to work through it together.’
