Willy Caballero’s contract has been extended for a further year, taking his deal up to the end of the 2020/21 season.
The Argentinian put pen to paper back in April, having featured nine times for Frank Lampard’s side this season, most recently in our 2-2 draw at Bournemouth at the end of February.

The club exercising the option to extend the contract by a further year takes him into a fourth season at Chelsea, during which time he has helped us win the FA Cup and Europa League.
On agreeing to the extension, Caballero said: ‘I am very happy to make this announcement. It is a privilege to be part of this Chelsea squad and the Chelsea family, at one of the most historic clubs in the Premier League.
‘It is a difficult time for everyone right now so I feel blessed by this opportunity and truly appreciate it. I want to thank my team-mates for helping me to be my best and I want to thank the boss and the club for extending my contract. I’m sure they will continue to demand the maximum from me and I will compete with the same energy as always. I am very happy.’
Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: ‘Willy has proved himself to be a reliable member of our squad over the past three seasons so we are very pleased he has agreed to spend another year at Chelsea.
‘He has at times had to be patient and wait for opportunities but has still been able to make a positive contribution to the team, which is very much appreciated by the club. We look forward to him resuming his influence among the group once football is safe to return.’
Frank Lampard said: ‘I trust in Willy, he trains brilliantly and is a great professional. He stepped into the team earlier this year and showed his quality, and his experience is invaluable in the dressing room. I’m delighted he will be with us next season.’
How old is Willy Caballero?
The 38-year-old joined the Blues in the summer of 2017 from Manchester City, where he had spent three seasons. He made 13 appearances in his first campaign at Stamford Bridge, most of which came in the cup competitions, and played in every round of the FA Cup bar the final as we lifted the trophy for the eighth time.
Under Maurizio Sarri in 2018/19, the goalkeeper appeared nine times behind first-choice Kepa Arrizabalaga and notably kept a clean sheet in a crucial home win over Tottenham. He also featured twice in our successful Europa League campaign.

Prior to the suspension of the current season, Caballero made nine appearances and five consecutive starts in February, including another home victory over Spurs.
