Moises Caicedo doesn’t score simple goals! After another stunner earned the Blues a point at Old Trafford, the midfielder reflected on the result and explained why his goal meant so much.
There was a quarter-of-an-hour remaining when a Cole Palmer corner was headed clear to the edge of the box. Caicedo kept his eyes trained on the ball as it fell out of the Mancunian sky, before firing a low volley into the bottom left-hand corner.
Having opened his Chelsea account with that outrageous halfway line effort against Bournemouth on the final day of last season, this was quite some way to back it up.
‘In my mind before the goal, I said to myself if the ball is arriving on my side, I’m going to shoot first time, and I did!’ said Caicedo.
‘My teammates sometimes joke with me because I don’t score too many goals, but my job is just to help the team in any way I can. This time was scoring a goal to win us one point.
‘I am so happy for the goal and the equaliser because we didn’t lose the game. It was the moment to score a goal. We knew if we waited for a long time it was going to be complicated. It was important for the team.’
Caicedo was rightfully given the official player of the match award by host broadcaster Sky Sports. Not only did he find the net, but he showcased his destructive abilities in the middle of the park time and again. Overall, Caicedo felt our performance merited more than what we returned back to London with.
‘We deserved to win,’ he assessed.
‘We knew it would be a tough game but we were prepared for it. I'm so happy for the team. It was a great fight out there.
‘We wanted to win the game to go to third place in the table, but one point is good. Sometimes the most important is to not lose the game. I am happy for the point. Now we focus on the next game.’
In the league that is against Arsenal. We can be confident Caicedo will again be central to our best work.
