Moises Caicedo was pleased to secure a 2-0 victory over Servette in the first leg of our Conference League tie - his 50th appearance for the club.
Starting as captain for the first time since joining the Blues, Caicedo presided over an even opening half before Christopher Nkunku ensured we kicked up a gear after the break, winning a penalty and converting it moments later.
Noni Madueke secured the first-leg victory, powering home his finish after a wonderful pass from Enzo Fernandez.
Moises was pleased to earn the win, especially after racking up a half-century of appearances for the club and being his side’s skipper for the evening.
The 22-year-old began: ‘It was really good wearing the captain’s armband for the first time with this amazing club. I’m so proud.
‘I found out before the warm-up. The kit man told me that I was going to wear it and I was surprised, but after it was a really good moment for me and my family.’
Moises knows there is still a job to do next week in Geneva to confirm our progression to the group phase of the Conference League, and feels the Blues will take confidence from the result.
‘We were good and we played well, and we won which was the most important thing,’ Caicedo continued.
‘It’s also important to get the clean sheet because we take more confidence and we always want to try to get the clean sheet in every game.’
He also saved a special message for the supporters.
Moises added: ‘The fans are always important. They support us and they are so important. We gain confidence when they support us every single game. It’s so good!’
