A Sunday double-header for our men's and women's teams gave Chelsea the chance to celebrate the Year of the Dragon, with both sets of players taking to the field in a special warm-up top to mark the occasion.
Ahead of both the Premier League clash with Wolves at Stamford Bridge and the Barclays Women’s Super League visit of Everton, our players donned brand new exclusively designed pre-match jerseys emblazed with a Dragon crest.
In the lunar calendar, each year is associated with a specific animal from the Chinese zodiac and this year, it's the turn of the dragon. The dragon is also highly symbolic in Asian culture, representing strength, good fortune and power.
The 39,623 crowd at Stamford Bridge, were also treated to visually spectacular celebrations at half-time with a live dragon dance. The two dragons paraded around the perimeter of the pitch during the interval, accompanied by some traditional live Chinese music as the club festivities to mark the occasion got underway.
