Chelsea can confirm Charlotte Wardlaw has joined Women’s Championship side Sheffield United on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old, who is a product of our Academy and can play in defence or midfield, made her Blues debut in 2019 in a League Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur, before making two appearances in the FA Cup against Charlton and London City Lionesses.

She signed her first professional contract with the club ahead of the 2021/22 season, which she spent out on loan with Liverpool, helping them win the Championship title and promotion to the Women’s Super League.

The start of the following campaign would see Wardlaw return to Merseyside for another spell at Liverpool, before returning to Chelsea in January 2023 when she then joined Lewes on loan.

Ahead of the 2023/24 season, the young defender joined Scottish Women’s Premier League side Glasgow City on loan. In Scotland, she made 29 appearances and scored twice as Leanne Ross’ side finished third in the league.

On the international stage, Wardlaw captained England from Under-15 to Under-19s level.

Wardlaw will spend the upcoming campaign in the Championship with the Blades, who finished seventh last season.

Everyone at Chelsea would like to wish Charlotte every success during her time at Sheffield United, and we look forward to watching her progress over the course of the campaign.
