Charlotte Wardlaw has departed Chelsea having completed a permanent move to Championship side Newcastle United.
The 21-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, leaves the Blues after coming up through the ranks of our Academy. She signed her first professional contract ahead of the 2021/22 season, having made three senior appearances before marking that career milestone.
After signing her maiden professional contract, Wardlaw spent the season on loan in the Championship with Liverpool, helping them win the league and promotion to the Women’s Super League.
She would spend the first half of the following season in Merseyside, before returning to Chelsea in January 2023 when she returned to the Championship and joined Lewes on loan.
Last season, she moved north of the border and joined Scottish side Glasgow City on loan. She made 29 appearances and scored twice as her loan club finished third in the SWPL.
Ahead of the 2024/25 season, Wardlaw joined Sheffield United on loan where she featured on 12 occasions in all competitions during the first half of the campaign.
A promising young talent for England on the international stage, she captained the youth national team from Under-15 to Under-19 level.
Wardlaw joins Newcastle United who currently sit seventh in their maiden season in the Championship, having won four of their nine matches thus far.
Everyone at Chelsea would like to thank Charlotte for her contributions during her time at the club and we wish her every success for the future.
