Blues Academy graduate Charlotte Wardlaw has signed a new contract until summer 2025 and will spend the 2022/23 campaign on a season-long loan at Liverpool.

The young midfielder signed her first professional contract with Chelsea last July and spent the following season on loan to Liverpool, helping them to secure promotion from the Championship into the Women’s Super League with 23 appearances to her name for the Reds.

Wardlaw joined the Blues Academy at the age of 15 and made her first appearance for the Blues against Tottenham Hotspur in November 2019. The youngster made a further two appearances against Charlton in the FA Cup in 2020 and London City Lionesses in the FA Cup in 2021.

Wardlaw has also captained England from Under-15s through to the Under-19s.

Reflecting on the news, general manager Paul Green said: ‘We see this as a great opportunity for Charlotte to go back to Liverpool and gain valuable WSL playing time.

‘She had a good season with Liverpool last year helping them gain promotion and we feel that this as an important next step in her development. We look forward to seeing her have another successful season with Liverpool.’

Our Blues No.34 is the fifth player to go on loan for this coming season following the announcements that Aggie Beever-Jones, Jorja Fox, Emma Thompson and Lucy Watson have gone on loan to Everton, Brighton and Hove Albion, Lewes and Charlton Athletic respectively.
