Chelsea are delighted to announce that Academy goalkeeper Katie Cox has signed her first professional contract with the club on a deal until the summer of 2026, plus the option of an extra year.

The 18-year-old has been with the Blues since joining our Academy at only eight years old. She has enjoyed much success at youth level over the years, winning the FA Youth Cup in 2021/22 and the PGA Cup the following season.

In May of 2024, the young goalkeeper became the first-ever recipient of the Women’s Academy Player of the Year award.

After committing her future to the Blues, Cox said: ‘It’s an honour to sign my first professional contract with my childhood club.

‘I’m looking forward to working with and playing with some of the best staff and players in the world and I’m very excited to see what the future holds.’

General manager Paul Green added: ‘We’re really pleased for Katie to sign her first professional contract.

‘Katie is a bright prospect who has come through and excelled in our Academy programme. Indeed, picking up the Academy Player of the Year for last season.

‘We’ve got really high hopes for her in the future and look forward to seeing her develop and improve in the upcoming years.’

Cox already boasts experience with the first team as she featured in the match-day squad in the first leg of last season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final against Barcelona and is currently part of our squad on tour in the USA.

On the international stage, Cox has represented England at Under-16s, Under-17s and Under-19s level. This summer, she started every match as the Young Lionesses reached the semi-finals of the U-19s European Championships in Lithuania.

Away from football, the teenager excels at basketball and has represented Great Britain in the sport at Under-18s level.

Everyone at Chelsea would like to congratulate Katie on signing her first professional contract, and we wish her every success during her time in blue.
