Chelsea FC Women are kicking off their new season with a rallying cry to the women’s football community with their campaign Nothing Stops Us.
The campaign follows on the back of a record-breaking summer of football and nods to the fact that the women’s game has entered a new era.
Writing in the Metro this week, manager Emma Hayes said the Lionesses success at the Euros felt like a ‘tipping point’ and nodded to the pioneers who had fought to pave the way for the current success.
‘It’s the 30th anniversary of Chelsea FC Women this year,’ she wrote. ‘Each generation of Blues stands on the shoulders of those before us: those who had a vision and never took no for an answer.’
To celebrate Chelsea’s long history in the women’s game, the club has produced a film celebrating the successes of the past three decades and looking ahead to the future of the team.
The film features a voiceover from Chelsea fans Felicia Pennant and Mayowa Quadri and showcases club legends like Julie Newell, who scored 84 goals in her first 48 appearances for the side.
The opening match of the season at Stamford Bridge will also serve as a celebration of London’s thriving women’s football community, with grassroots clubs and fan groups part of an exciting matchday artwork to be revealed on the day.
Throughout the season, the campaign will act as a galvanising message to women and girls across London through the work of Chelsea’s world-leading Foundation, who will be kicking off with girls and walking sessions on Chelsea’s Eel Brook Common before the match on Sunday 11 September.
