Chelsea Foundation welcomed the West London Islamic Cultural Centre back to Stamford Bridge, following our work together during Ramadan earlier this year.
The organisation played an integral part in our Open Iftar at Stamford Bridge, with their Imam leading the call to prayer in what was the first Open Iftar in a Premier League Stadium, before former Chelsea FC defender, Kalidou Koulibaly visited the West London Islamic Cultural Centre to meet with worshipers observing Ramadan.
Earlier this month, Chelsea Foundation welcomed 40 young people from the centre to the home of Chelsea FC, in support for WLIC’s ‘Gifted’ programme which is aimed at boosting employability.
Chelsea Foundation’s Education & Innovation department delivered an expert session for the guests highlighting the variety of career paths within the Club and the football industry, before taking the young people on an exclusive stadium and museum tour.
Alfie Butwell, Senior ED&I Officer at Chelsea Foundation, said: ‘It was inspiring to welcome the young people from West London Islamic Centre at Stamford Bridge as we delivered an education activation session, with an insight to career pathways at Chelsea Foundation and Chelsea FC. Ensuring we create an environment for everyone to feel welcomed, valued and safe is important to build allies and inspire, educate and motivate the next generation from our local communities.’
Muhammad Abubakar from the West London Islamic Centre, said: ‘I’d like to express my immense gratitude for the incredible experience Chelsea Foundation facilitated for us during our recent visit. The children and I were genuinely touched by the opportunity to learn firsthand about the inner workings of a football club, and it's safe to say that Chelsea FC has found a special place in our hearts. The knowledge the kids gained about how a football club is run and the tour was invaluable. It's truly remarkable how impactful such an experience can be on young minds.’
