Today, ahead of London Pride, Football v Homophobia hosted their annual Football Pride event at Stamford Bridge. Football Pride is a campaign that aims to provide visibility, celebration and a powerful sense of community for LGBTQ+ people and allies from across all parts of the game.
The occasion, reflecting Chelsea’s commitment to celebrating inclusivity within football, welcomed football fans from across the football and LGBTQ+ communities. Guests had the opportunity to hear from guest speakers during a range of panel talks, view acclaimed short-film Ripe and witness a special performance of PITCH, a theatrical production following a grassroots football team.
Lou Englefield, Football v Homophobia’s campaign director, said: ‘Football Pride is all about belonging – an event that says we’re here, we’re queer and we’re part of the beautiful game.
‘We’re so grateful to our friends at the Chelsea FC Foundation for hosting us in west London and to all those signed up as sponsors, partners and supporters.’
Jon Holmes, media and comms lead at Football v Homophobia, echoed this sentiment, saying: ‘On Pride weekend in London, we're really thrilled to have brought this year's big Football Pride event to Stamford Bridge.
‘With energising theatre, heartwarming film, original performances and panel chats on campaigning, relationships, community clubs and international tournaments, there was something for everyone!’
Tracy Brown, chair of Chelsea Pride, said: ‘We at Chelsea Pride are incredibly proud of our Chelsea Foundation and their unwavering support of Football Pride. Football Pride is an incredible celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. Together, we stand side by side in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.’
During Pride month each year, Chelsea FC and Chelsea Foundation collaborate with the club’s LGBTQ+ supporters’ group, Chelsea Pride, to take a Chelsea float to the London Pride parade.
Pride month is recognised at Chelsea Football Club and Chelsea Foundation as an integral component of the No To Hate campaign, reflecting the club’s dedication to fostering equality, diversity, and inclusion.
