Chelsea Foundation’s Kicks and Disability Inclusion teams have joined up to deliver weekly football sessions for young people with disabilities in Wandsworth.

The sessions, which take place at Furzedown Recreation Centre in Tooting and the George Shearing Centre in Battersea, help respond to the specific needs of young people who experience limited access to physical exercise and organised sport.

The project also aims to address social inclusion and provide links to additional support networks.

The sessions have been running since the start of the summer and have been gaining popularity with support from Wandsworth Council, the London FA and the George Shearing Centre who have been generating interest among their service users.

Chelsea Foundation social inclusion officer Tony Rodriguez said: ‘Delivering programmes such as this gives added value to the work of the Foundation and connects young people to the club and their community.’

Disability Inclusion senior officer Andy Rose added: ‘These sessions are a great way for different departments of the Foundation to come together and provide opportunities for people to access sport regardless of their ability or additional support needs.

‘The sessions so far have been a lot of fun and we are looking forward to welcoming more children to the sessions in the future.’
