Cole Palmer has become the first player since Eden Hazard to manage 20 or more Premier League goal contributions in back-to-back seasons. So here we run through every Blue who has done so in the Premier League era.

Palmer's opening goal in the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on Monday evening saw the England international hit the 20 mark in the Premier League for 2024/25, leaving him well on his way to matching last season's 33 goal contributions in the competition.

The last person to reach 20 twice in as many seasons for Chelsea was our brilliant Belgian Hazard - incredibly he did so five times in seven seasons, between 2012 and 2019 - and 13 players in total have achieved the feat in at least one campaign since the Premier League began in 1992.

To mark Palmer's latest landmark, we have decided to recognise the achievements of the other members of our illustrious 20-goal-contribution club...

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

2000/01 – 23 goals and 9 assists in 35 appearances
2001/02 – 23 goals and 6 assists in 35 appearances

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink wasted no time making his mark at Stamford Bridge following his club record transfer from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2000. He netted against West Ham on his league debut and did not let up all season, finishing as the division’s top scorer in 2000/01. Hasselbaink matched that tally of 23 goals in his second campaign, and his blend of power, precision and poise meant he regularly turned provider, too, with Eidur Gudjohnsen the main beneficiary.

Eidur Gudjohnsen

2001/02 – 14 goals and 6 assists in 32 appearances

Eidur Gudjohnsen combined with Hasselbaink to great effect in 2001/02, forming one of the most devastating strike partnerships in Chelsea history. Gudjohnsen was equally adept at dropping deeper to use his vision and deftness of touch to create chances as he was latching on to through balls to finish with his customary coolness. Highlights of the campaign included goals at Old Trafford, St James’ Park and White Hart Lane.

Gianfranco Zola

2002/03 – 14 goals and 7 assists in 38 appearances

The great Gianfranco Zola saved his most consistent campaign at Chelsea until last. Zola disrupted the Hasselbaink-Gudjohnsen partnership with some top-class performances, forcing his way into Claudio Ranieri’s starting XI and playing a massive role in our fourth-placed finish, and with it the reward of Champions League football. From the moment he kickstarted a comeback at Charlton on the opening day, until his final Blues goal, a sublime lob against Everton, Zola was once again a joy to watch in 2002/03.

Frank Lampard

2004/05 – 13 goals and 18 assists in 38 appearances
2005/06 – 16 goals and 8 assists in 35 appearances
2006/07 – 11 goals and 10 assists in 37 appearances
2008/09 – 12 goals and 10 assists in 37 appearances
2009/10 – 22 goals and 14 assists in 36 appearances

A model of consistency, Frank Lampard set the benchmark for midfield play during his illustrious Chelsea career. Three of the five seasons in which he reached 20 or more goal contributions ended in Premier League glory. Rarely did a game go by without Lampard making a tangible impact in the final third. It is hard to imagine we will ever see his like again.

Didier Drogba

2005/06 – 12 goals and 11 assists in 29 appearances
2006/07 – 20 goals and 4 assists in 36 appearances
2009/10 – 29 goals and 10 assists in 32 appearances
2010/11 – 11 goals and 13 assists in 36 appearances

The man who profited from so many Lampard assists, 24 in total, Didier Drogba laid on plenty himself to accompany his prowess in front of goal. The Ivorian got better and better as the 2005/06 season wore on, helping us over the line in the title race, and then finished as the Premier League’s top goalscorer in both 2006/07 and 2009/10. The latter of those campaigns, in which he missed a chunk of the season because of the Africa Cup of Nations, was especially memorable: 39 goal contributions in just 32 games says it all. Drogba was unstoppable.

Nicolas Anelka

2008/09 – 19 goals and 2 assists in 37 appearances

With Drogba injured for much of the season, Nicolas Anelka stepped up to lead the line in his first full season at Stamford Bridge. The Frenchman delivered an exceptional display of clinical finishing. His 19 goals were the most of anyone in the Premier League, and ensured we overcame a mid-season stumble to finish third.

Florent Malouda

2009/10 – 12 goals and 8 assists in 33 appearances

Something of an unsung hero for the Blues during a period of sustained success, the France international notched some impressive figures during our first-ever Double-winning campaign in 2010. Despite often playing a little deeper in midfield, rather than his usual spot on the left wing, during that season, it proved to be Florent Malouda's most prolific for Chelsea in terms of goals, as his excellent combinations with the likes of Anelka and Drogba tore the Premier League apart.

Juan Mata

2012/13 – 12 goals and 12 assists in 35 appearances

The Spanish playmaker’s second season with the club brought his second Player of the Year award, and it was well deserved. Always a creative threat, our strikers continued to benefit from Juan Mata’s assists, while he added goals of his own to double his Premier League tally from his debut campaign in England. Those goals included a memorable three-minute double to spark a comeback victory at Tottenham and a late winner at Manchester United.

Eden Hazard

2012/13 – 9 goals and 11 assists in 34 appearances
2013/14 – 14 goals and 7 assists in 35 appearances
2014/15 – 14 goals and 9 assists in 38 appearances
2016/17 – 16 goals and 5 assists in 36 appearances
2018/19 – 16 goals and 15 assists in 31 appearances

It is no surprise to anyone who had the pleasure of watching Eden Hazard play that he registered 20 or more Premier League goal involvements in five of his seven seasons at Stamford Bridge. The brilliant Belgian was instrumental in our title wins in 2015 and 2017, and arguably saved his best individual season for last, when a remarkable tally of 16 goals and 15 assists helped us finish third. He was named Chelsea Player of the Year at the end of each of those three campaigns, testament to his outstanding contributions.

Diego Costa

2014/15 – 20 goals and 3 assists in 26 appearances
2016/17 – 20 goals and 7 assists in 35 appearances

The Brazilian-born Spain international bookended his Chelsea career with a pair of impressive seasons. Diego Costa's goals and assists in both of these campaigns contributed to success for the Blues, as he ended them with a Premier League winner’s medal around his neck. He was also Chelsea’s top scorer in both, despite stiff competition from a certain Eden Hazard.

Cesc Fabregas

2014/15 – 3 goals and 18 assists in 34 appearances

Brought in to add a creative spark to Jose Mourinho’s Blues midfield, Cesc Fabregas did so in abundance. Although he scored more goals in the two season’s which followed, it was his debut campaign with Chelsea which gets him on this list as he set up a host of goals for Hazard, Diego Costa and others, on our way to claiming the title.

Mason Mount

2021/22 – 11 goals and 10 assists in 32 appearances

The Academy graduate recorded his best tally for goals with Chelsea in 2021/22. Although the trophies arrived elsewhere in that season – lifting the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup – it was the Premier League which brought the bulk of Mason Mount’s goals and some his best performances in a Blues shirt. That included his only hat-trick for the club, in a 7-0 thrashing of Norwich City.

Cole Palmer

2023/24 – 22 goals and 11 assists in 33 appearances
2024/25 – 14 goals and 6 assists in 21 appearances – and counting!

Cole Palmer’s meteoric rise since joining Chelsea at the start of last season shows no signs of slowing down, as he continues to provide a cutting edge in final third. His brilliant debut campaign saw him burst onto the scene to be named Chelsea’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year, as well as PFA Fan’s Player of the Year and Premier League Young Player of the Year. Those look unlikely to be the last awards he wins with the Blues, having picked up right where he left off this season, currently well on course to match, or even surpass, those impressive figures this time around.
