With five Chelsea players in contention in various categories for this year’s Professional Footballers’ Awards, we take a look at the Blues greats who have honoured by their fellow players in recent years.

Reece James and Conor Gallagher are nominees for the Men’s Young Player of the Year, Lauren James is up for Women’s Young Player of the Year and Sam Kerr and Pernille Harder are in contention for the Women’s Players’ Player of the Year with the winners to be announced on Thursday (9 June).

John Terry – Men’s Players’ Player of the Year 2005

Having missed out on the PFA Young Player of the Year award to team-mate Scott Parker in 2004, John Terry deservedly won the main award the following year after skippering the Blues to our first league title in half a century.

Our Captain, Leader, Legend played in 53 games and scored eight goals that season as Chelsea won the Premier League with a record-breaking 95 points and was also named Man of the Match as we beat Liverpool to win the League Cup.

Eden Hazard - Men’s Players’ Player of the Year 2015, Young Player of the Year 2014

After winning the Young Player of the Year award in 2014, Eden Hazard moved his game to another level the following season as he scored 19 goals and provided 21 assists to inspire the Blues to another Premier League title and victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup final.

The brilliant Belgian was duly recognized as the best player in English football as he swept all of the major individual awards in 2014/15 include the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, the FWA Footballer of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season.

N’Golo Kante - Men’s Players’ Player of the Year 2017

While Hazard was brilliant again when Chelsea won the Premier League again two years later, the superlative form of N’Golo Kante in 2016/17 saw the Frenchman claim the individual honours at the end of the campaign.

Kante’s dominating presence in midfield provided a solid base for the Blues as we went on a club-record 13-game winning streak in the league to pull away from the rest of the club and seal the title with two games to spare.

Ji So-Yun - Women’s Players’ Player of the Year 2015

Ji So-Yun had a huge impact on Chelsea Women after her arrival in 2014 as the Blues became a force in the Women’s Super League, winning five league titles and the 2017 Spring Series during her eight and a half years at the club.

The South Korean star was at her mesmerising best in 2015 when she scored the winner in the Women’s FA Cup final, helped the Blues clinch our first WSL title and became the first Chelsea player to win the Women’s Players’ Player of the Year award.

Fran Kirby - Women’s Players’ Player of the Year 2018, 2021

Fran Kirby won the PFA award in 2018 after playing a big role in Chelsea’s WSL and Women’s FA Cup double but the England forward suffered a health scare in 2019 when she was diagnosed with a pericarditis infection which sidelined her for 10 months.

However, she made a strong comeback in 2020/21, scoring 25 goals to help the Blues win all three domestic trophies on offer as she became the second player to win the Women’s Players’ Player of the Year award twice.

Bethany England - Women’s Players’ Player of the Year 2020

Bethany England was in prolific form for Chelsea during the 2019/20 season as her goals helped fire the Blues to another WSL title.

Her 21 goals that season included a brace in a 2-1 victory over Arsenal in the FA Women’s League Cup final as we lifted the trophy for the first time.
