Chelsea is delighted to confirm that Academy defender Cerys Brown has signed with the club until the summer of 2024, with the option to extend by a further year.
Having joined the Blues in August 2021, the 18-year-old has been a part of our academy programme ever since. She made her women's first team debut away at Reading in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup quarter-finals back in March, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 3-1 victory.
Brown is a tenacious and athletic full-back who loves to defend first and foremost. She has proven to be adaptable and possesses versatility in her game, having performed impressively in central defence for club and country last season.
Those performances were duly recognised at the club’s end-of-season awards where she was named the Under-18 Player of the Season. She was part of the Blues side which won the FA Women’s Academy Cup against Manchester United in April and on the international stage, she recently made her first Under-18 competitive appearance for England youth teams.
On putting pen to paper with the Blues, Brown said: ‘Signing my first professional contract is a dream come true and especially at a club like Chelsea, which has so much success and so much ambition. I’m really excited!’
General manager Paul Green commented: ‘Cerys has been outstanding in our academy and we’re really pleased to give her first professional contract. She has worked really hard and was the Player of the Year for the academy last season. She’s an athletic, young defender and we look forward to seeing her develop further in the upcoming years.’
Everyone at Chelsea would like to congratulate Cerys on her first professional contract, and we wish her every success for the years to come.
