Emma Hayes’ side will take on Ajax in the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals after the draw was conducted in Nyon, Switzerland, on Tuesday lunchtime.
The Blues secured our place in the last eight of the competition as winners of Group D, which was made up of BK Hacken, Paris FC, and Real Madrid. We registered four victories and two draws, taking 14 points from 18 available, and emerging from the group phase with an unbeaten record.
As group winners, we had three potential opponents ahead of the draw. Benfica, Brann, and Ajax finished runners-up in their respective groups, which meant a trip to Portugal, Norway, or the Netherlands was on the cards before a ball was drawn.
We were the third quarter-final tie to be drawn and we have been pitted against Ajax, who were the first Dutch side to reach the group stage and only the second to make the quarter-final stage of the competition. It will be the first time the teams have met in UEFA competition.
The quarter-final ties will be played across two legs and the Blues will travel to the Netherlandsfor the first leg on either 19/20 March.
We will return home for the second leg which will take place on 27/28 March. Confirmed dates and kick-off times to be announced in due course.
For administrative purposes, the path for the remainder of the competition was mapped out and should we be successful in progressing to the semi-final stage of the competition, we will face the winners of the quarter-final tie between Brann and Barcelona in April.
