Reiss Denny, Josh Acheampong and Harrison Murray-Campbell scored as England began their Under-17 World Cup campaign with a 10-0 victory over New Caledonia.
Acheampong and Ishe Samuels-Smith started at full-back for England, with Denny deployed in the centre of midfield. Murray-Campbell and Michael Golding came off the bench on the hour, with Ted Curd an unused substitute in Jakarta.
On the quarter-hour, Denny opened the scoring from the penalty spot after VAR spotted an infringement in the box.
Justin Oboavwoduo and Tyler Dibling added further goals before Acheampong made it 4-0 in first-half injury time with a powerful header from a corner.
New Caledonia’s cause was not helped when their captain was shown a straight red card less than 60 seconds after the restart. England were already in complete control by that point and the player advantage only increased their dominance.
Sam Amo-Ameyaw, Oboavwoduo and Ethan Nwaneri extended their lead to 7-0 before Golding saw his shot take a hefty deflection and fly into the net. It was given as an own goal.
With five minutes remaining Murray-Campbell got in on the act with a header, and there was still time for a tenth goal, scored by Finley McAllister. It was one of 40 attempts England had, half of which hit the target as the Young Lions recorded their biggest ever World Cup victory at Under-17 level.
Tougher tests await with Iran next on Tuesday and then Brazil on Friday in their final group game.
