Emma Hayes’ Chelsea side will be looking for a third consecutive home victory when Brighton & Hove Albion are the visitors to Kingsmeadow in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday.
The Blues are unbeaten so far this season and have taken seven points from nine available with victories over Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United on home soil, either side of a valuable point on the road away at Manchester City.
In our previous outing, we came up against a stubborn West Ham where goals in each half from Sam Kerr and Erin Cuthbert sealed a hard-fought three points. Niamh Charles continued her fine form with a third assist in as many games, a clean sheet and the Player of the Match award.
Our final league fixture before the impending international break sees us welcome Melissa Phillips and her Brighton & Hove Albion side to Kingsmeadow. They arrive in the capital occupying 10th position with one win and two defeats from their first three league matches of the campaign.
When and where?
We take on Brighton & Hove Albion in the WSL at Kingsmeadow this Sunday 22 October, with kick-off scheduled for 2pm (UK time).
How to follow
As always, you can follow the game via Chelsea Women’s social media channels. There will be live commentary on our Twitter page and regular updates on Facebook and Instagram. Simply search ‘ChelseaFCW’ on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. For supporters who cannot attend the match, this will be available to watch live on the FA Player platform.
The form
We go into the game against Brighton sitting third in the league table with two wins and one draw from our opening three league games. We have netted five goals each courtesy of different scorers and conceded two in the process.
In what has been a brilliant start to the season for Charles, the 24-year-old has more assists than any other WSL player this season (three). She has six assists in her last 10 appearances, the most of any player in the competition since the start of April.
Brighton arrive at Kingsmeadow in 10th place, with one win and two defeats from their first three outings in the league. An opening day win away to Everton preceded home losses to West Ham and Tottenham, either side of their FA Continental Tyres League Cup win away to Birmingham City.
Chelsea vs Brighton & Hove Albion recent head-to-head record
On Sunday, it will be just over a year to the day we travelled to Brighton last season on a soaking wet evening at the Broadfield Stadium. Goals from Bethany England and Pernille Harder got the job done in challenging conditions against the hosts who showed real resilience on the night.
In the reverse fixture at Kingsmeadow in March, the Blues ran out 3-1 winners courtesy of goals from Guro Reiten, Jess Carter and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd who opened her account for the club that evening.
Next up for the Blues
Following our match against Brighton, the WSL takes a break for the international window where several Blues will be representing their countries around the world.
We return to league action with a trip to Aston Villa at the Poundland Bescot Stadium on Saturday 4 November, with kick-off at 12.30pm (UK time) and the match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
