Chelsea return to Stamford Bridge to take on Swedish outfit BK Hacken for matchday three of the UEFA Women’s Champions League on Thursday evening.
After a disappointing defeat to Arsenal in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday, our attention turns swiftly to the UEFA Women’s Champions League, where we will be looking to continue the unbeaten start we have made to our European campaign.
A 2-2 draw away to Real Madrid on matchday one was followed by a 4-1 victory over Paris FC at Stamford Bridge in November. A fine finish from Sophie Ingle added gloss to the scoreline after a stunning hat-trick from skipper Sam Kerr on matchday two.
BK Hacken are the visitors as we approach the halfway point of the group stage. The Swedes have enjoyed an excellent start, taking maximum points from their opening two matches, seeing them hold a two-point lead at the top of Group D going into Thursday’s clash.
When and where?
We welcome our Swedish opposition Hacken to Stamford Bridge on matchday three of the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage this Thursday 14 December, with kick-off scheduled for 8pm (UK time).
How to follow
As always, you can follow the game via Chelsea Women’s social media channels. There will be live commentary on our Twitter page and regular updates on Facebook and Instagram. Simply search ‘ChelseaFCW’ on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
DAZN will be broadcasting the game live, and those in the UK can watch via TNT Sports. The match will also be available on the DAZN Women’s Football YouTube channel, the Official Chelsea App and on the club website.
The form
An unbeaten start to our European campaign sees the Blues occupy second place in Group D going into matchday three. We have taken four points from six available with one win and a draw from our first two games, scoring six goals and conceding three in the process.
Hacken have taken the group by storm and recorded consecutive victories over Paris FC and Real Madrid to date. They lead the group with six points from as many available, just two ahead of the Blues, and we could leapfrog the Swedes into top spot with a victory.
With two goals and four assists to her name this season, winger Johanna Rytting Kaneryd has been growing in confidence with every passing game. She will be going up against her former club on Thursday evening having joined the Blues from Hacken last summer.
Glance at the group
We go into matchday three sitting second in Group D, just two points behind our Swedish opposition who lead the way before a ball is kicked.
Elsewhere, third-placed Real Madrid travel to Paris FC in the earlier kick-off, with the latter looking to get off the mark in the competition.
Next up for the Blues
Another quick turnaround sees the Blues return to WSL action with a trip to Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Sunday 17 December.
Kick-off is scheduled for 2pm (UK time) and the match will be available to watch live via the FA Player platform.
