Chelsea vs Lille head to head record
Prior to our meeting on matchday two in September, Chelsea and Lille had never met before in European competition. Our two previous meetings were both friendlies in 1950. Lille won the first on their own ground 3-1 in May and the Blues won 3-0 six months later in front of just under 10,000 at the Bridge.
Highlights of our only competitive meeting with Lille so far can be watched below...

This is Lille’s sixth appearance in the Champions League group stage and their first since 2012/13. Only one of those previous five campaigns has extended into the knockout rounds, in 2006/07. Seven years ago they finished bottom of a section including Bayern Munich, Valencia and BATE Borisov.
Before this season, Lille’s six Champions League matches against English opposition all came against Manchester United, with the French side winning one, drawing two and losing three. In all competitions including matchday two, Lille have failed to score in five of their last seven matches against English teams.
Lille’s only win in six away games at English sides across all European competitions came at Aston Villa in the Intertoto Cup in August 2002 (2-0) – they have failed to score in each of their other five such matches in England (one draw, four defeats).
Lille’s most recent European appearance came in 2016/17 and lasted one tie, Gabala of Azerbaijan running out 2-1 aggregate winners in the Europa League third qualifying round.
Lille have lost five of their last six Champions League fixtures, drawing the other against Valencia in October.
Lille have won three of their 18 Champions League away games, losing four of their last five on the road.
Lille have kept one clean sheet in their last 11 matches in the Champions League, winning 2-0 against BATE Borisov in November 2012.
After beating Brest 1-0 on Friday, Lille have 28 points from their 17 Ligue 1 fixtures and currently stand third, 11 points behind leaders PSG.
Lille picked up their first away victory in all competitions at the 14th attempt (five draws, eight defeats) thanks to a 1-0 win at Lyon on 3 December, Jonathan Ikone scoring the only goal of the game.
Victor Osimhen has netted two of Lille’s three goals in the Champions League this season, although both games he has scored in have ended in defeat (1-2 v Chelsea and 1-4 v Valencia).
Head coach Christophe Galtier had never managed a side against Chelsea until matchday two.
