The form

The Blues' perfect start to the season has been maintained over the last week, with our 100 per cent record across all competitions extended via a pair of away wins; Celtic were beaten 2-1 in Glasgow in the Champions League and we defeated Liverpool 3-0 in the WSL.

Guro Reiten, Mayra Ramirez and Aggie Beever-Jones all got their names on the score sheet against the Reds as we made it back-to-back wins on Merseyside - having beaten Everton 5-0 the previous week - before Maika Hamano and Ashley Lawrence helped us to victory in Scotland.

It means Sonia Bompastor's impressive start as Chelsea head coach now stands at nine wins from as many games in 2024/25. Six of them have come in the WSL, with clean sheets in four, 21 goals struck in that competition, and just three conceded in reply.

It has been a similar story for our opponents Manchester City, who have won 11 of their 12 matches in all competitions this season, most recently back-to-back home victories, 2-0 over Hammarby in the Champions League and 4-0 against Tottenham Hotspur in last week's WSL game. Their one slip so far came in a 2-2 draw away to Arsenal in September.

Recent head-to-head

These two sides have been evenly matched during the WSL era, with six wins apiece and eight draws. Chelsea have netted 27 goals across those fixtures to City's 25.

That trend continued last term when a 1-1 league draw at City - which saw two red cards for the home team and a dramatic Guro Reiten equaliser in the sixth minute of added time - was followed by an away win for each team.

City won the return fixture 1-0 at Kingsmeadow in February but in the League Cup semi-finals Lauren James' early goal gave us a win on their turf by the same scoreline.

Our last home win over Man City came early in the 2022/23 campaign when a Fran Kirby strike and Maren Mjelde's penalty saw us bounce straight back from an opening-day loss to Liverpool with a 2-0 victory at Kingsmeadow.
