Chelsea return to European action tomorrow evening as we welcome Paris FC to Stamford Bridge on matchday two of the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage.
We began our campaign with a frustrating 2-2 draw away to Real Madrid. Olga Carmona gave the hosts an early lead, but goals in each half from Niamh Charles and Sam Kerr put us ahead.
Unfortunately, our good work was undone by two controversial calls. The first was a penalty for Madrid, converted by Carmona, for a foul that occurred outside the box. The second was a last-minute winner from Charles wrongly ruled out for offside.
There were still positives to take from the game – and we followed it up with a resounding 5-1 victory against Liverpool in the Women’s Super League on Sunday. Now comes Paris and an opportunity to take control of our group-stage campaign
When and where?
Our first outing of the season at Stamford Bridge in the UWCL takes place on Thursday, 23 November. Paris FC are the visitors and kick-off is scheduled for 8.00pm (UK time)
How to watch?
DAZN will be broadcasting the game live, and those in the UK can watch via TNT Sports 1. The match will also be available on the DAZN Women’s Football YouTube channel and the Official Chelsea App and on the club website.
As always, you can also follow the game via Chelsea Women’s social media channels. There will be live commentary on our Twitter page and regular updates on Facebook and Instagram.
The form
An unbeaten start to our WSL campaign has given the Blues a three-point advantage at the top of the table. We have accumulated 19 points from 21 available – six wins and one draw – and have struck 23 goals while conceding just five.
As for our opponents, Paris are on a fine run of form with seven wins and only one defeat from their first eight league games. They sit second in Division 1 Feminine and trail leaders Lyon by just three points.
Our French visitors produced famous scalps on their way to qualifying for the group stage of this year’s UWCL, while their form on the domestic front means we will have to be at our best to claim all three points.
Glance at the group
We go into match-day two sitting second in Group D as a result of the draw with Real Madrid, who occupy third spot after our meeting last week.
Paris FC were on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat to BK Hacken on match-day one. They prop up the table while the Swedes lead the way.
Next up for the Blues
After the clash with Paris, we welcome Leicester City to Kingsmeadow in the Women’s Super League on Sunday, 26 November.
Kick-off is scheduled for 2.00pm (UK time) and the match will be available to watch live via the FA Player platform.
